Rajasthan Royals (RR) endured one of their poorest campaigns in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, finishing ninth in the points table. After such a disappointing season, the franchise is expected to make several bold decisions ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. They won their only IPL title in the inaugural 2008 season, and will aim to rebuild their squad and return stronger next year. On that note, let us take a look at five players RR might release before the IPL 2026 auction.
West Indies power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer could be one of the notable names to be released by Rajasthan Royals. Retained ahead of the 2025 season for a hefty INR 11 crore, Hetmyer failed to justify his price tag with below-par performances. He managed to score only 239 runs in 13 innings at an average of 21.72.
He is known for his explosive finishing skills, and struggled to provide the much-needed stability in the middle and lower order. His inconsistency in crunch moments and inability to finish games might lead RR to look for a more reliable finisher in his place.
