Former South African superstar AB de Villiers, known as ‘Mr. 360’ for his ability to hit shots all around the ground, has unveiled his list of the top 10 batters in ODI cricket history. The list includes a mix of all-time legends and modern-day greats, highlighting players who have shaped the 50-over format with their consistency, innovation, and match-winning ability.
At the very top of De Villiers’ list is Virat Kohli, who is regarded as one of the finest ODI players of all time. Kohli has already scored more than 14,000 ODI runs, including 51 centuries, and is known for his unmatched ability to chase down targets under pressure. His consistency and hunger for runs have made him the gold standard in ODI batting.
Interestingly, De Villiers placed himself at the second spot. The South African maestro redefined batting in the modern era with his fearless 360-degree strokeplay, amassing over 9,500 ODI runs at a strike rate above 100. His ability to single-handedly change the course of a match makes him a deserving pick in his own top-10 list.
The list would be incomplete without cricketing giants like Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar. Ponting, Australia’s World Cup-winning captain, scored more than 13,000 ODI runs and was known for his aggressive yet calculated batting style. Tendulkar, fondly called the ‘God of Cricket,’ remains the highest run-getter in ODI history with 18,426 runs and 49 centuries, setting a benchmark for future generations. De Villiers also named former Proteas star Hashim Amla, who is considered as one of the most underrated batters in ODIs. He scored over 8000 runs in the 50-overs format at an impressive average of 49.46 with 27 centuries.

De Villiers also recognized the brilliance of modern stars. Rohit Sharma, the only batter with three ODI double centuries, and Babar Azam, Pakistan’s superstar with an average consistently above 50, were both included. David Warner, one of Australia’s most explosive openers, also found a spot thanks to his aggressive approach at the top of the order.
The former Proteas captain gave special recognition to legendary wicketkeeper-batters. MS Dhoni, India’s World Cup-winning leader and one of the greatest finishers in cricket, was placed seventh. Alongside him, Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lanka’s most prolific run-scorer and one of the most stylish left-handers, also featured in the top 10.
