Indian actor Ram Charan recently issued an apology on social media after mistakenly referring to India pacer Jasprit Bumrah as a footballer during a promotional event for his upcoming film Peddi.

The incident took place at the grand music launch of the movie in Bhopal, where Ram Charan attended alongside Janhvi Kapoor, A. R. Rahman, and other members of the film’s cast and crew. During an interaction with the media, the actor was asked to describe some of India’s iconic cricketers in a few words.

Ram Charan described Sachin Tendulkar as a “long legendary run,” called MS Dhoni “calm and cool,” labelled Virat Kohli as “fire,” and said Rohit Sharma is “everybody’s man.” However, while speaking about Bumrah, the actor accidentally referred to him as a footballer, leading to a wave of reactions and memes across social media platforms.

As the clip went viral, Ram Charan later clarified the situation and apologised to Bumrah through a post on X.“Uff… I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes.

Apologies to @Jaspritbumrah93 Ji for the mix-up — it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah is having a poor IPL 2026. The 32-year-old has looked nowhere near his best this season, and that has hampered the five-time IPL champions too. In 13 matches so far, he has picked up just four wickets with an average of 102.50, and with an economy rate of 8.37.

MI coach Mahela Jayawardene recently opened up on Bumrah’s slump, and gave some insights.

“(It is due to) a combination of a few things. Coming back from the (T20) World Cup, he had a slight niggle which he played with through the World Cup, so we gave him adequate rest to come back,” Jayawardene told on the eve of their game against Rajasthan Royals.

The match between RR and MI will take place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 25.
