The opening ODI between Afghanistan and Bangladesh at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi witnessed a stunning piece of athleticism from Rashid Khan, who pulled off a brilliant running catch to send Saif Hassan back to the pavilion. Bangladesh, after opting to bat first, found themselves in early trouble before two experienced campaigners steadied the innings with a composed partnership.
It was the 5th ball of the 12th over when Nangeyalia Kharote floated one outside off stump. Hassan, eager to accelerate, backed away and tried to loft it over long-off. However, he mistimed the stroke, sending the ball high into the night sky rather than deep into the stands.
Rashid, stationed at long-off, sprinted several meters to his left and kept his eyes glued to the descending ball. Timing his run to perfection, the Afghan star completed a superbly judged catch, maintaining balance and composure even as the ball threatened to dip awkwardly at the last moment. The crowd at Abu Dhabi erupted as Rashid’s teammates rushed in to celebrate the crucial breakthrough.
This dismissal highlighted Rashid’s all-round impact — not just as a world-class leg-spinner but also as one of the finest fielders in modern cricket. His effort drew applause from fans and commentators alike, adding yet another moment to his long list of memorable on-field contributions.

After Hassan’s dismissal, Bangladesh found themselves under pressure with early wickets gone. However, Towhid Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took charge of the situation, exhibiting maturity and patience to guide their side out of danger.
By the end of 31 overs, Bangladesh had reached 139/3, with Hridoy unbeaten on 52 and Miraz on 45. The duo stitched together a valuable partnership, rotating the strike smartly and punishing loose deliveries. Their positive intent ensured Bangladesh stayed competitive despite losing key wickets in the powerplay.
