The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced the squads for the upcoming ODI series and one-off Test against India national cricket team. Hashmatullah Shahidi will captain Afghanistan in both formats, while star spinner Rashid Khan has opted out of red-ball cricket and will only be available for the ODI series.
The solitary Test match is scheduled to begin on June 6 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. The three-match ODI series will then be played on June 14, 17, and 20.
Players named in both the Test and ODI squads include Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Alikhil, Azmatullah Omarzai, Nangyal Kharoti, Zia-ur-Rehman, and Bilal Sami.
The board also confirmed that a reserve pool has been kept on standby in case of injuries during the tour. Rashid’s absence from the Test squad comes as part of his recovery and workload management following surgery for a severe back injury. Doctors have advised him to avoid red-ball cricket for now to prevent further complications and extend his availability in white-ball formats such as ODIs and T20Is.
