The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are set to announce the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies on Thursday, September 25. The first Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2-6, while the second encounter will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10-14.
According to The Times of India's Gaurav Gupta, BCCI's chief selector Ajit Agarkar will announce the squad on Thursday from Dubai in the afternoon.
India have made a decent start to their World Test Championship (WTC) campaign in the 2025-2027 cycle, drawing a five-match series 2-2 against England in the United Kingdom. Shubman Gill led a young Indian team from the front, amassing 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40. The Men in Blue registered wins in Birmingham and London.
India will enter the two-match home Test series against the West Indies as the favourites. They will look to register full points against the Caribbean side. However, India will want to forget their memories of the last home Test series they played, losing to New Zealand 3-0 late last year.
The West Indies started their WTC campaign with a series against Australia in June-July. The Roston Chase-led side lost all three matches in the one-sided home series.
India and the West Indies have faced each other in 100 matches in the longest format of the game. The Asian side has won 23 matches, while the Caribbean outfit has emerged victorious on 30 occasions. 47 matches ended in a draw.
Why is Litton Das not playing India vs Bangladesh Match 16?
The last meeting between these two teams in the red-ball format was in July 2023 in the Caribbean. India won the two-match Test series 1-0. This was the same series where Yashasvi Jaiswal made his international debut. In the first Test, the southpaw smashed 171 off 387 balls in Roseau, Dominica, hitting 16 fours and one six.
