Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will lock horns with Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2026 playoffs on Tuesday, May 26, at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. With a direct ticket to the grand final in Ahmedabad at stake, both teams will be desperate to deliver their best performance in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
The two sides finished the league stage level on 18 points, showcasing remarkable consistency throughout the season. GT have impressed with arguably the best new-ball bowling attack in the tournament, claiming 30 wickets in the powerplay overs. RCB are not far behind with 28 powerplay scalps, making the battle between the top-order batters and fast bowlers one of the key talking points heading into the clash.
GT’s pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada has historically enjoyed success against Virat Kohli in T20 cricket, dismissing him five times. On the other hand, RCB’s experienced swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has managed to keep Shubman Gill relatively quiet over the years, restricting him to a strike rate of just 106.7. Amid all the excitement surrounding the game, former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has identified one major area of concern for RCB ahead of the crucial knockout fixture.
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Rayudu admitted that RCB possess a stronger batting lineup than GT but expressed concerns regarding their bowling performance during the middle overs in recent matches.
“The only problem with RCB is that, in the past few games, the middle overs bowling has not been that great. Suyash has slightly gone out of form. Romario Shepherd has not been really delivering what he’s supposed to, and Krunal Pandya has become slightly predictable. So that is one area where I see a little bit of concern for RCB. Otherwise, the batting is way better than what GT possesses,” said Rayudu.
RCB have looked dominant with the bat throughout the season, thanks to consistent performances from Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Phil Salt. However, their inability to control scoring during the middle phase has occasionally allowed opposition teams to recover from difficult situations.
Young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma started the tournament strongly but has struggled to maintain the same impact in recent outings. Meanwhile, all-rounder Romario Shepherd has not quite delivered the finishing punch with the ball that RCB expected from him. Krunal Pandya, despite his experience, has found it difficult to surprise batters consistently as teams appear to have worked out plans against his bowling style.
Rayudu believes that if RCB fail to tighten their middle-overs bowling, GT’s explosive batting unit could capitalize on the opportunity in a high-pressure playoff match.

The much-anticipated Qualifier 1 clash is expected to produce a thrilling contest between two evenly matched sides. Fans are especially eager to witness the battle between tournament leading run-scorer Kohli and GT skipper Gill, who has once again enjoyed a prolific season with the bat.
With the head-to-head record standing evenly at 4-4, there is very little separating the two franchises historically. Both teams possess dangerous batting lineups capable of changing the game within a few overs, which makes bowling execution even more critical under pressure.
As evening dew is expected to play a major role in Dharamshala, bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Rashid Khan could become decisive factors in determining the outcome. With a place in the IPL 2026 final on the line, cricket fans can expect a high-intensity showdown filled with drama, momentum swings, and star performances.
