The spinner had admitted that he was a year older to his documented age and that his coach during childhood had come up with the idea to give him an additional year for being selected in age-group cricket.
“Let me tell you, I have a one-year discrepancy, and my coach helped with that. I didn't even know about it. The coach called my home and asked for one more year for me. It was quite an emotional story. I was surprised and asked, 'How?' He said, 'From today, you are one year younger; now you have two more years.' I agreed,” Mishra had said on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast in a video on his YouTube channel.
Mishra played 68 international matches (22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is) for India and picked 76, 64 and 16 wickets in the three formatss, respectively. Mishra's last international match was in February 2017 as he fell out of contention with the emergence of wrist-spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
Speaking of Mishra's IPL career, he played for four franchises in his 16-season-long career, representing Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) from 2008 to 2010, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and 2012, Delhi Capitals from 2015 to 2021 and Lucknow Super Giants in 2023 and 2024. Mishra also holds a distinguished record to his name as he is the only bowler in the IPL to have claimed three hat-tricks.
The crafty leg-spinner has loads of experience in the domestic circuit as well. He played 152 First-Class and List A matches each), snapping 535 and 236 wickets, respectively. He also possesses a double-hundred (202*) in FC cricket.
