The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 25-member preliminary squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, set to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The announcement was made officially on Monday, August 4 by the national cricket governing council.
All selected players have been instructed to report for a fitness camp at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on August 6, followed by skill training from August 15 at the same venue. The camp will then shift to Sylhet on August 20.
As part of their preparation for the Asia Cup, Bangladesh is expected to host a T20I series against the Netherlands. While the official itinerary is yet to be released, the three-match series is likely to be played between August 26 and September 4 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. This will mark the Netherlands’ first bilateral T20 series in Bangladesh.
Originally, the Bangla Tigers were scheduled to host the Indian team for a multi-format series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, but the tour was postponed for an indefinite period amid rising political tensions between both the countries on geopolitical front. As a result, the two teams are now expected to meet at the Asia Cup, if both reach the later stages of the eight-team event.
Bangladesh will kick off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against Hong Kong on September 11. They are placed in a group alongside Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
Five players from the preliminary squad, Nurul Hasan, Mahidul Islam, Saif Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, and Naim Sheikh, will travel to Australia on August 9 to participate in a tournament. Following that, the Bangladesh A team will play a four-day match against South Australia. This marks Bangladesh’s second appearance in the tournament, following their debut in 2024, as they look to build depth across formats.
