Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan comfortably in Match 9 of the Asia Cup 2025 at Abu Dhabi, despite some resistance from the Afghan batters. Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers, Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan, provided a strong start with a 63-run partnership for the first wicket. Rashid Khan provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Saif.

Although Bangladesh lost a few wickets later, the runs continued to come at a decent pace. Tanzid scored a quick 52 off 31 balls, including four fours and three sixes, while Towhid Hridoy contributed 26 from 20 deliveries. The lower-middle-order batters pushed the total to 154 for 5 in 20 overs. Rashid Khan finished with figures of 2/26, while Noor Ahmad took 2/23.

Afghanistan’s chase began poorly as Sediqullah Atal fell on the first ball to Nasum Ahmed. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (35) and Azmatullah Omarzai (30 off 16) tried to stabilise the innings, but wickets fell regularly at the other end. For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed took two wickets each, while Mustafizur Rahman starred with 3/28 in four overs.

In the end, Bangladesh won by eight runs to claim their second victory of the tournament. Afghanistan will look to bounce back in their next match against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh openers Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan put on an impressive 63-run partnership for the first wicket, setting the tone for the innings. Saif scored 30 off 28 balls, while Tanzid continued the momentum with a quick half-century, finishing 52 from 31 deliveries, helping Bangladesh post a competitive total.

Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Saif Hasan, hitting his off stump, and finished with impressive figures of 2/26. Noor Ahmad also made an impact by removing the other opener, Tanzid Hasan, who scored 52, returning with figures of 2/23. Their efforts slowed the scoring and put pressure on the Bangladesh innings during the middle overs.

From the very first ball, Bangladesh bowlers dominated the Afghan batting lineup. Nasum Ahmed made an immediate impact, dismissing Sediqullah Atal on the first ball of the chase. He continued his brilliant spin, removing Ibrahim Zadran by trapping him inside the crease, and finished with excellent figures of 2/11 from his four-over spell.
