Sri Lanka completed an emphatic six-wicket victory against Bangladesh in Match No. 5 of Asia Cup 2025 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. With this, Group B now has three teams who possess a couple of points each, the only difference being that Bangladesh has played a game more than the Lankan Lions and Afghanistan.
Batting first, Bangladesh lost three wickets within the powerplay. By the time the halfway stage was reached, they were already five down with 54 on the board. Jaker Ali (41* off 34) and Shamim Hossain (42* off 34) stayed unbeaten to the end, posting a decent 139/5 on the board. Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera ended with identical figures of 1/17 in four overs.
Kusal Mendis (3 off 6) fell early on in the chase. Pathum Nissanka (50 off 34) and Kamil Mishara took the Lankans past the 100-run mark through some spotless batting before the former fell. Mishara ended up unbeaten on 46 off 32, with skipper Charith Asalanka (10* off 4) on his side. Mahedi Hasan was the only bowler from Bangladesh who completed his quota.

An amazingly accurate throw at the non-striker's end concluded Towhid Hridoy's nine-ball stay at the crease. Hridoy, who had set off for a third run after pulling the ball to the deep square leg region, could not even make it despite a full-length dive. The Bangladeshi batter walked back, scoring just 8, as his team was left reeling and looked in a paltry position.
Hasaranga did not get his second wicket due to the bail not falling despite the ball clearly grazing Jaker Ali's off stump and the LED lights dazzling up. However, he had to wait for only a couple of deliveries after Litton got a feather of a glove through to the wicketkeeper.
The left-handed batter's innings comprised four fours and two sixes. He helped Nissanka through his innings by playing sensible cricket too. Mishara ended up as the only player to have scored a couple of sixes across both teams.
