Asia Cup 2025: India name 15-member squad, Jasprit Bumrah to play

The All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee has disclosed Team India’s squad for the upcoming ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025. The selection panel, chaired by Ajit Agarkar has picked a 15-member squad, which will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, will see Shubman Gill act as the vice-captain. Meanwhile, key seniors like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, and Arshdeep Singh will also be travelling to the United Arab Emirates for the eight-team event.
One of the most shocking inclusions was the name of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The world-class fast bowler was expected to have a rest for the continental tournament to prioritize his workload, keeping himself fit and available ahead of the upcoming red-ball assignments against West Indies and South Africa at home. However, since the tournament will be played in 20-over format, and Bumrah will bowl not more than 20–25 overs across the 20 days of the tournament, he has been included.
While nothing surprising, the Indian opening pair will see Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson start off the proceedings. There were murmurs around the possible inclusion of Shubman Gill as one of the openers, but the 25-year-old will have to keep himself busy with the Duleep Trophy, where he has been named the captain of the North Zone side for the 2025 season.
India Squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh
