Bangladesh and Sri Lanka meet in the fifth Group B match of the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 at Abu Dhabi on September 13. Bangladesh opted to bat first and managed 139 for 5 in their 20 overs. Litton Das provided early impetus with a fluent 28 off 26 balls before wickets tumbled in the middle overs. Jaker Ali’s unbeaten 41 off 34 deliveries rescued the innings, while Shamim Hossain’s late cameo of 42 off 34 boosted the total to a defendable score on a pitch offering variable bounce and turn.
In the ninth over Wanindu Hasaranga delivered a perfectly disguised googly that hit Jaker’s off stump. The stumps flashed under the lights but the bail stayed firmly in place. After a brief moment of celebration, Hasaranga realized the bail had not dislodged and the on-field umpire ruled not out. That reprieve proved pivotal.
Jaker regrouped to add vital runs alongside Hossain, steering Bangladesh past the 130-run mark. Hasaranga finished with figures of 2 for 25, while Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera shared three wickets to keep Bangladesh in check. The lower-order resilience highlighted Bangladesh’s depth and ensured a competitive total despite early setbacks.

Chasing 140, Sri Lanka stumbled immediately as Mustafizur Rahman angled one back to get Kusal Mendis for 3 in the second over. Sri Lanka were 13 for 1 at the end of the powerplay, with Pathum Nissanka top-scoring on 9 off 5 balls before falling in the middle overs. Kamil Mishara and Charith Asalanka then rebuilt the innings, rotating the strike and finding occasional boundaries.
Sri Lanka require 127 runs from 109 balls at a required rate of 6.99. With a win probability of 78.6% they remain favourites, but must navigate the tricky Abu Dhabi conditions and avoid further early losses to secure their place in the Super Four.
This high-stakes encounter under the floodlights promises tactical battles between spinners and batters. Bangladesh will rely on Rahman’s death-over prowess and Shoriful Islam’s variation, while Sri Lanka will trust their experienced top order to chase down the target.
