Pakistan and the UAE collide in match No. 10 of the ongoing 2025 Asia Cup with a spot in the Super Four up for grabs. This match takes place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Wednesday, September 17.
Pakistan and the UAE have played a lot of cricket against each other in recent times. They played a tri-series in Sharjah. Pakistan beat the UAE in both meetings by an identical margin of 31 runs. However, Wednesday's clash is set to be more important than the previous two meetings between these two sides.
Pakistan started their campaign with a 93-run victory over Oman. However, they were outplayed by arch-rivals India in their most recent fixture, losing by seven wickets. A lot was expected from Saim Ayub heading into the tournament, but he has only registered two back-to-back golden ducks. The likes of Fakhar Zaman and Salman Ali Agha will have to step up on Wednesday and use their experience to good effect. The spinners are also expected to play a key role against the UAE batters.
On the other hand, the UAE started with a nine-wicket defeat versus India before bouncing back with a 42-run victory against Oman. The onus will be on UAE openers Alishan Sharafu and Muhammad Waseem to step up against Pakistan on Wednesday. They will be high on confidence after slamming half-centuries against Oman and putting up an 88-run stand in 11 overs. Meanwhile, the bowling department will be led by Junaid Siddique, who bagged a four-for in the last game, with Haider Ali and Muhammad Jawadullah in support.
Four matches have been played so far at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. The average first-innings total has been around 124. Three out of the four games have been won by chasing teams. The captain who wins the toss would want to bowl first on Wednesday.
