Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman etched his name in history during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours clash against India in Dubai by surpassing Shakib Al Hasan to achieve a historic milestone in T20I cricket for Bangladesh. The landmark was achieved during a high-pressure Super Four encounter, making it even more memorable for the seamer and the team.
Mustafizur became Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is. He surpassed Shakib Al Hasan’s previous record of 149 wickets with a key dismissal of India captain Suryakumar Yadav. Mustafizur’s historic wicket came at a crucial juncture in the match, immediately impacting the momentum. On the last ball of the 12th over, Rahman bowled a delivery that India skipper Suryakumar Yadav could only fend behind to stand-in captain Jaker Ali. This dismissal not only broke Shakib Al Hasan’s record but also highlighted Rahman’s skill in executing precise deliveries under pressure.
Bangladesh’s T20I cricket history has seen some exceptional bowlers, but a few names have stood out for their wicket-taking prowess. Leading the charts is Mustafizur, who has redefined the art of pace bowling for his country with an impressive 150 wickets, surpassing the previous record held by Shakib. Shakib, a stalwart of Bangladesh cricket, remains just behind with 149 wickets, showcasing his remarkable consistency over the years. Following them is Taskin Ahmed, who has claimed 99 wickets, making him a vital part of the team’s pace attack. Young talents like Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam have also contributed significantly, with 61 and 58 wickets respectively, demonstrating the depth in Bangladesh’s bowling resources. These figures highlight the evolution of the team’s T20I bowling unit and the emergence of new match-winners over time.

This milestone made Mustafizur the first Bangladeshi bowler to reach 150 wickets in T20Is, and also the fourth player globally to achieve this landmark. He joined the elite company of Rashid Khan(173), Tim Southee (164) and Ish Sodhi (150). Known for his deadly variations and clever use of pace, Rahman achieved this landmark in his 118th T20I, boasting an average under 21 and an economy rate just above 7. Beyond this record, Mustafizur’s T20I career is dotted with remarkable achievements. He is one of the very few bowlers to have claimed multiple five-wicket hauls (2) and three four-wicket hauls in the format. Notably, he also remains the only Bangladesh bowler to record a six-wicket haul in T20Is (6/10 vs USA, 2024).
