In the third match of Group B at Abu Dhabi on September 11, Bangladesh faced Hong Kong at the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025. Chasing 144 on a pitch offering bounce and movement, Hong Kong rallied to a competitive 143 for 7 after a gritty powerplay full of setbacks.
With Hong Kong 71 for 3 in the 11th over, Zeeshan Ali attempted to hook Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s inviting length on 11.3 but miscued the shot. Mustafizur Rahman sprinted from mid-wicket, leaped, and, with safe hands over his shoulder, plucked the ball for a spectacular catch that reduced Hong Kong to 71 for 4. Zeeshan had made 30 off 34 balls at a strike rate of 88.23 when he skied the edge, and Mustafizur’s catch handed Tanner his second wicket of the spell.
That moment halted Hong Kong’s momentum, with two set batters, Zeeshan and Nizakat Khan, at the crease. Bangladesh’s death-over strategy then applied relentless pressure, restricting runs in the final five overs (42 for 4), as Mustafizur and Rishad Hossain kept scoring in check.

Reeling from the wicket, Hong Kong fought back through Nizakat, who smashed 42 off 40 balls with two boundaries and a six. His partnership with Yasim Murtaza, who struck 28 from 19 deliveries, revived hopes of a competitive total after early dismissals of Anshuman Rath (4) and Babar Hayat (14). Extras proved costly for Bangladesh, as three leg byes, two no-balls, and nine wides added 14 runs to Hong Kong’s tally. The tourists reached the 100-run mark in 14.5 overs but lost momentum in the death overs, slipping from 117 for 4 at 17.1 overs to 143/7 at the end of their 20 overs. Kalhan Challu and Ehsan Khan provided brisk late runs, ensuring Hong Kong posted a formidable 143.
Bangladesh now face a required run rate of 7.15 to seal victory. With Mustafizur’s fielding flair setting the tone, the hosts will look to their batting depth and spin threat on a turning Abu Dhabi wicket to chase down 144 and maintain their unbeaten start in Group B.
