Asia Cup 2025: Reports - Jasprit Bumrah confirms availability for marquee event

India has received a massive boost ahead of the impending Asia Cup in Dubai as the talismanic Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly announced himself to be available for the marquee event. The tournament, scheduled to be held in the UAE from 9 to 28 September, will be contested in the T20 format. The selectors are expected to meet in Mumbai on Tuesday, 19 August, to name the squad. Bumrah has informed them that he is fit and eager to play the continental tournament.
Bumrah recently featured in the five-match Test series between India and England in the United Kingdom. However, the Gujarat seamer played just three Tests as the management was very keen not to overuse him and keep him fit for future assignments.
"Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week," a source was quoted as saying by India Today.
Interestingly, Bumrah has not played white-ball cricket for the Men in Blue since the 2024 T20 World Cup. He played a crucial role in India's triumph at the global event. The Ahmedabad-born was named Player of the Tournament after picking up 15 wickets in eight matches at a mind-boggling average of 8.27. His economy rate was an incredible 4.18.
In the Test series against England, Bumrah looked in fine form, accounting for 14 scalps from three matches at an average of 26. However, India failed to win any of the three matches Bumrah played in the series.
The 31-year-old has also been receiving criticism from a section of fans and experts after skipping the fifth Test at The Oval in London. This was an important game for India as they had to win it to draw level in the series and prevent England from winning the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. In Bumrah's absence, Mohammed Siraj put his hand up and produced a magical spell in the fourth innings to help the Asian giants win the match by six runs.

India will begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on September 10 against the UAE in Dubai. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will play its next two matches against Pakistan and Oman on September 14 and 19, respectively.
