Bangladesh pulled off a magnificent run chase against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 20, to secure vital points in the Super-Four stage of the 2025 Asia Cup.

Litton Das won a good toss and opted to bowl first. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis batted well, adding 44 runs in five overs. However, both the openers got out after getting starts. Kamil Mishara fell cheaply before Kusal Perera only managed 16 off as many balls.

Dasun Shanaka played a blinder of a knock, smashing an unbeaten 64 off 37 balls. Charith Asalanka also contributed with an important cameo as Sri Lanka finished on 168/7.

In reply, Bangladesh lost opener Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the first over. However, Saif Hassan and Litton Das played aggressively to help the Tigers add 59 runs in the powerplay. After Litton departed for a 16-ball 23, Towhid Hridoy joined forces with Hassan and the duo forged a composed 54-run stand off 45 balls.

Wanindu Hasaranga broke the partnership between Hassan and Hridoy in the 14th over. The opening batter made 61 off 45 balls. Hridoy, however, took the responsibility upon himself to take his team home. He smashed a belligerent half-century before being dismissed in the 19th over. However, he had already put his team in a position of strength by then.

In the end, Bangladesh almost made a mess of things, after only one run was required off the last five balls. Sri Lanka took two wickets in three balls before Nasum Ahmed hit the winning run. Shamim Hossain deserves praise for his handy knock of 14* off 12 balls. Bangladesh finished on 169/6 in 19.5 overs.

Towhid Hridoy might be only 24 years old, but he played like someone who has years of experience batting in pressure run chases. He scored 58 off just 37 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. The Bogra-born batted with a sense of calmness, wisely choosing the bowlers to target. His rotation of strike was also remarkable and kept the pressure firmly on Sri Lanka.

Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka played a sensational knock in the first innings. While the pitch wasn't easy to bat on, Shanaka targeted the short boundary and made the Bangladesh bowlers pay for any lapses they made. The all-rounder finished unbeaten on 64 off 37 balls. He hit three fours and six sixes, ending his stay at the crease with a strike rate of 172.97.

Mustafizur Rahman is lethal, especially on surfaces that are sluggish in nature. The Dubai surface suited his style of bowling, and he delivered for Bangladesh. Rahman used his cutters to great effect and finished with phenomenal figures of 3/20 in four overs despite the carnage caused by Shanka. The left-arm pacer accounted for the wickets of Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, and Wanindu Hasaranga.
