Suryakumar Yadav has expressed that he did not have any hesitation in going with Arshdeep Singh for the Super Over in the final Super Fours fixture of Asia Cup 2025. Effectively a dead rubber, the India-Sri Lanka contest turned out to be a thrilling one as India won through a Super Over after the left-arm pacer conceded only two runs while taking as many wickets in his set.
The Indian T20I skipper also commended how Arshdeep has provided similar performances in crunch situations in the past. He also shared the message he conveyed to the bowler ahead of the Super Over.
“Arshdeep has been in that situation a lot of times and he has delivered for us. I only told him to back his own plans and not think about anything. We were already in the final, but (I told him to) have his own plans and execute them. I have seen him execute his plans, do really well for India and his IPL franchise (Punjab Kings). His confidence says it all and no one but Arshdeep for that Super Over," stated Suryakumar during the post-match presentation.
Suryakumar jokingly admitted that the intensity of the match made it seem like the final. Overall, he seemed quite happy with how the players responded to the situation and expressed his elation to be in the final.
"It felt like a final [laughs]. The boys showed a lot of character after the first-half in the second innings. Told them to play this like a semi-final. Get everyone close in, have good energy and then let's see what happens. Good to be on the winning side. What I wanted from the boys, just trying to execute their plans, be clear and not to fear, that was really important and I am sure everyone got what they wanted. Happy to be in the final," he added.
