Pakistan A (PAK A) square off against Sri Lanka A(SL A) in the second semi-final in the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Friday, November 21.
Irfan Khan-led Pakistan A finished in pole position in Group B, winning all three of their matches. While they were favourites to beat Oman and the UAE, their eight-wicket win against arch-rivals India will give them a lot of confidence.
Dunith Wellalage's Sri Lanka started their campaign with a three-wicket defeat to Afghanistan A. However, consecutive wins against Hong Kong and Bangladesh A helped them finish second and earn a spot in the knockouts.
The surface has slowed down considerably as the tournament has progressed. In the first 12 matches, eight have been won by chasing teams, while teams batting first have emerged victorious on four occasions. The average first-innings total has been around 153.
Mohammad Naeem, Maaz Sadaqat, Ghazi Ghori (WK), Yasir Khan, Mohammad Faiq, Irfan Khan (C), Arafat Minhas, Muhammad Shahzad, Shahid Aziz, Ahmed Daniyal, Sufiyan Muqeem.
Nishan Madushka (WK), Vishen Halambage, Lasith Croospulle, Nuwanidu Fernando, Sahan Archchige, Ramesh Mendis, Dunith Wellalage (C), Milan Rathnayake, Pramod Madushan, Garuka Sanketh, Traveen Mathew.
Maaz Sadaqat has been the standout performer among the batters in the tournament. In three matches, he has amassed 212 runs and is yet to be dismissed. The southpaw has a staggering strike rate of 182.76 and will look to get his team off to a flying start on Friday.
Dunith Wellalage is among the most experienced players in the tournament. He has played one Test, 31 ODIs, and six T20Is, and has been leading Sri Lanka A from the front so far. In three matches, he has picked up six wickets at an average of 11 and a strike rate of 8.83. The left-arm spinner will look to use the conditions to great effect and give the Pakistani batters a tough time.
