India U19 currently hold the advantage in the first Youth Test against Australia U19, which is being played at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane. The hosts trail by 177 runs, with their total reading 8/1 after six overs at Stumps on Day 2 of the game.
A brilliant five-wicket haul from Deepesh Devendran (5/45 in 16.2 overs) had helped dismantle Australia on the opening day of the match. The second day started with the Indian innings. Hayden Schiller conceded 16 runs in the first over itself. Skipper Ayush Mhatre (21 off 15) was the first wicket to fall. By the end of 10 overs, India were 69/2.
A 17-run over from Aryan Sharma brought about Vaibhav Suryavanshi's fifty. Suryavanshi had raced to 86 by the time he had hit six fours and as many sixes in his innings. By that time, Vedant Trivedi had got to his half-century too. Suryavanshi smoked Aryan for a six and two fours in three consecutive deliveries to get to a brilliant ton by the 30th over of the innings.
Schiller got rid of the left-handed batter on the first ball of the 33rd over. Trivedi got to his ton a couple of overs after Abhigyan Kundu (26 off 41) was dismissed. Will Malajczuk had the last laugh over Rahul Kumar by getting rid of him after the middle-order batter stroked three fours earlier in the over. Aryan bowled his first maiden over of the match while bowling his 21st.
India were 322/5 at Tea, possessing a run rate of 5.55. Schiller secured his third wicket not too long after the commencement of the third session. Trivedi was dismissed for 140 off 192 off Aryan. India crossed 400 with some optimistic batting from Khilan Patel. He was caught-and-bowled by Malajczuk for a run-a-ball 49. India were shortly bowled out for 428 in 81.3 overs.
Devendran’s fifer dismantles Australia U19 on Day 1
Alex Lee Young was dismissed for a three-ball duck early in Australia's second innings. After conceding five runs in his first over, Kishan Kumar bowled two maidens on the trot. Deepesh Devendran ended the day with a maiden. Australia's top-scorer in their first innings, Steven Hogan, remained unbeaten on a single run off 13 deliveries.
