AUS vs IND 2025: 'Form is just a word for him' - Arshdeep Singh backs Virat Kohli to bounce back after Perth debacle

Left-arm speedster Arshdeep Singh has full confidence in Virat Kohli turning his fortunes around in the three-match ODI series between India and Australia. The talismanic batter did not have a memorable return to international cricket, as he was dismissed for an eight-ball duck in the first fixture. He was out caught at backward point by Cooper Connolly, chasing a wide delivery from Mitchell Starc.

Arshdeep said that it is a blessing to share the dressing room with Kohli and believes that the former India captain has enough experience and class get back among the runs in the remaining two games in the high-voltage series Down Under.

“Form is just a word for him. He has played more than 300 ODIs for India. He knows how to get going. It’s a blessing to share the dressing room with him. Going forward in the series, I feel there will be a lot of runs for him. Talking about this format, he has mastered it. I don’t know how he feels about it personally, maybe I will ask him and let you know at the next press conference," Arshdeep said after the match.

Australia won the first ODI by seven wickets (via DLS method) as they chased down a revised target of 131 runs in a 26-over contest. Skipper Mitchell Marsh top-scored with an unbeaten 48, helping the hosts reach the target in 21.1 overs.

Kohli's manner of dismissal brought back the memories of the tormenting Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year, where he was constantly dismissed while chasing balls well outside the off-stump. This has been a common method of dismissal for the Delhi batter during his illustrious international career.

Kohli has a sensational record in ODIs in Australia. In 30 innings, he has amassed 1327 runs at a staggering average of 49.14 and a strike rate of 88.58, including six fifties and five centuries and a highest score of 133 not out, which he made against Sri Lanka in the iconic run-chase of 321 runs in 36.4 overs in Hobart.

Former IND pacer not worried despite crushing Perth defeat

The second ODI between India and Australia is set to take place at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, October 23. Kohli will look to come out all guns blazing and help the Men in Blue keep the series alive.
