Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma got past Sourav Ganguly's ODI tally during the second ODI of the three-match series between Australia and India. Rohit took 33 matches and 30 innings fewer to rise up to third in the ODI run-scoring chart for the Men in Blue.
Rohit, playing his 275th ODI (267th innings), scored 73 off 97 in an innings which comprised seven fours and two sixes. Rohit currently sits at 11249. Ganguly had scored 11221 runs in his ODI career in which he played 308 matches (297 innings).
Rohit was looking all set to get to what could have been his 33rd century in 50-over internationals. However, he holed a Mitchell Starc delivery on the third ball of the 30th over of the innings. Rohit tried to hit the ball for a maximum, but could not get enough distance and elevation, as the fielder at deep fine leg completed a simple catch in the end.
Rohit had an underwhelming international comeback for India. He scored only 8 off 14 in Perth on Sunday, October 19. However, Rohit looked in much better nick in the ongoing match. He scored his 59th ODI fifty despite a cautious start. Rohit top-scored for the Shubman Gill-led unit.

Speaking of how the innings folded out, Shreyas Iyer scored 61 off 77 too. Axar Patel's 41-ball 44-run knock was also vital, as India got to 264/9 in their 50-over quota. As for the Mitchell Marsh-led side, Adam Zampa (4/60 in 10 overs) and Xavier Bartlett (3 wickets) were the standout performers. Josh Hazlewood was the most economical for the hosts, but did not manage to pick any scalp in his 10-over spell.
