AUS vs IND 2025: Suryakumar Yadav takes dig at Mohsin Naqvi over Asia Cup 2025 trophy row

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav once again took a cheeky dig at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi following India’s 2-1 T20I series win over Australia. The fifth and final match in Brisbane was washed out due to rain, but the Indian team lifted the series trophy, leading to a funny comment from the skipper that was seen as a jibe at the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy.
The Asia Cup 2025, held in Dubai, ended on a controversial note despite India defeating Pakistan in the final by five wickets. The Indian team refused to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who is both the PCB chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president, in protest of his anti-India stance and comments following the Pahalgam terror attacks. With neither party relenting, Naqvi took the trophy away, locking it inside the ACC headquarters in Dubai, where it remains to this day. After India’s series win against Australia, Suryakumar was asked about the feeling of lifting another trophy.
“It feels great to finally get to touch the trophy. Felt it in my hands, when I was handed over the trophy for the series victory. A few days back another trophy arrived in India our women's team has won the World Cup. That trophy has also arrived back home. It feels great and getting to touching this trophy as well feels good,” Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference.
BCCI Secy meets Mohsin Naqvi to settle Asia Cup trophy row
Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that talks between the two cricket boards have finally resumed. Saikia revealed that he met Mohsin Naqvi on the sidelines of an ICC board meeting in Dubai, where officials helped facilitate dialogue on the trophy dispute.
"I was a part of both the informal and formal meeting of the ICC. PCB chairperson Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During the course of a formal meeting, it was not on agenda but ICC facilitated a meeting between myself and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official," Saikia said.
According to reports, both boards are optimistic about resolving the matter soon. The Asia Cup trophy, still in the ACC office under Naqvi’s orders, may finally be handed over to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the coming weeks.
