BAN vs AUS, 1st T20I, Match Prediction: Who will today’s game between Bangladesh and Australia?

Table of Contents
Bangladesh and Australia are set to face off in the first T20I of their three-match series at the Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram on June 17. The hosts enter the contest with confidence after securing their first-ever bilateral series victory over Australia in international cricket, winning the recently concluded ODI series on home soil.
Bangladesh have assembled a strong squad under the leadership of Litton Das and will be hoping to carry their momentum into the shortest format. The likes of Parvez Hossain Emon, Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam impressed during the ODI series and are expected to play key roles once again. Emon has been one of Bangladesh’s most destructive batters in T20 cricket recently, while Nahid and Shoriful have consistently troubled opposition batters with their pace and accuracy.
Australia, meanwhile, will be eager to bounce back after a disappointing ODI campaign. The return of captain Mitchell Marsh significantly strengthens the side, while players such as Josh Inglis, Nathan Ellis and Cooper Connolly will be keen to make an impact. Connolly heads into the series on the back of a magnificent maiden ODI century against Bangladesh, while Marsh enjoyed an excellent IPL 2026 season with Lucknow Super Giants.

The Chattogram surface generally offers good conditions for batting during the early stages of a T20 innings. The new ball comes nicely onto the bat, allowing stroke-makers to play their shots freely during the powerplay. However, as the match progresses, the wicket tends to slow down, bringing spinners and slower bowlers into the contest.
Pacers are likely to rely on variations rather than outright pace, while spinners could enjoy considerable success during the middle overs. A first-innings score in the region of 160 could prove highly competitive on this surface. Weather conditions are expected to be warm and humid, with temperatures hovering around 31 degrees Celsius. While there is a slight possibility of rain interruptions, a full match is expected. The captain winning the toss may opt to bat first and put scoreboard pressure on the opposition.
