Bangladesh and Australia served up another thrilling contest in the third and final ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday. While the visitors eventually escaped with a dramatic one-wicket victory, one of the standout moments of the match came behind the stumps when substitute wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan pulled off a sensational catch to send back Marnus Labuschagne.
Chasing a competitive target of 275, Australia found themselves under pressure after losing regular wickets. Bangladesh’s bowlers continued to ask questions throughout the innings, and the hosts were rewarded with several crucial breakthroughs as they looked to complete a clean sweep of the series.
Bangladesh’s pace spearhead Shoriful Islam once again delivered an outstanding performance with the ball. The left-arm seamer consistently troubled the Australian batters with his movement and variations, picking up wickets at key moments of the chase.
After dismissing Josh Inglis and Matt Renshaw earlier in the innings, Shoriful struck again in the 24th over to break an important partnership between Cooper Connolly and Labuschagne. At the time of the dismissal, Australia were 134/4, still needing a significant number of runs to overhaul Bangladesh’s total. The wicket helped Bangladesh regain momentum after Connolly and Labuschagne had stitched together a valuable stand that threatened to take the game away from the hosts.
One of the highlights of the match arrived on the final ball of the 24th over. Shoriful bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off stump, tempting Labuschagne into playing at the ball. The Australian batter pushed hard at the delivery and managed only a faint outside edge. Substitute wicketkeeper Nurul reacted instantly, diving sharply to his right. Stretching out his right glove, he completed a magnificent catch before safely securing the ball against his chest as he landed on the turf.
The superb piece of wicketkeeping ended Labuschagne’s determined knock of 29 runs from 45 deliveries and sparked huge celebrations among the Bangladesh players. The dismissal also showcased Nurul’s excellent reflexes and awareness despite entering the game as a substitute for Litton Das.

Although Bangladesh continued to fight hard throughout the chase, Connolly produced one of the finest ODI innings of his young career. The left-hander anchored Australia’s chase brilliantly, smashing a magnificent 149 off 134 balls that included 13 fours and six sixes. The visitors appeared to be cruising towards victory before suffering a dramatic collapse late in the innings. Shoriful’s six-wicket haul brought Bangladesh back into the contest as Australia lost wickets in clusters during the closing overs.
However, Australia managed to hold their nerve in the tense finish. After Connolly finally departed in the penultimate over, Adam Zampa struck the winning boundary with one wicket remaining to seal a thrilling victory. While Australia avoided a series whitewash, Bangladesh still claimed the three-match ODI series 2-1 after winning the opening two encounters.
