Bangladesh Captain Litton Das slams Mohammad Rizwan over post-match handshake snub

The recent Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh, already historic for its on-field results, has taken a dramatic turn off the field. A brewing conflict between rival wicketkeepers Litton Das and Mohammad Rizwan has boiled over into the public eye, threatening to permanently strain cricketing relations between the two Asian nations. Days after the conclusion of the tour, Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Litton Das levelled serious allegations of unsporting conduct against the Pakistani veteran, exposing the deep-seated friction that simmered throughout the high-stakes games.
In a candid interview with Bangladeshi outlet Prothom Alo, Das expressed his deep disappointment regarding what he termed “fully unprofessional behavior” from Rizwan. According to Das, Rizwan deliberately avoided the customary post-match handshakes with the Bangladeshi camp after both Test matches.
The animosity originally sparked during the first Test when Das confronted Rizwan over alleged time-wasting tactics in gruelling weather conditions. Stump microphones captured Das telling the Pakistani batter that he had a “bad reputation” for stalling. Das later admitted that targeting Rizwan was a tactical decision, knowing that Rizwan and Babar Azam were the only two red-ball batters capable of derailing Bangladesh’s bowling attack.
However, Das emphasized that while on-field sledging is part of the game, breaking post-match protocols crosses a line. “Whatever happens on the field, once the game is over, everyone should shake hands. After the first Test defeat, Rizwan didn’t come to shake our hands… He did the same thing in the second Test as well,” Das stated.
Das noted that while the rest of the Pakistani squad maintained standard etiquette, Rizwan’s isolated snub felt like a disrespect to the entire nation of Bangladesh.
“He may have an issue with me, but the entire Bangladesh team did nothing to him,” he added, warning that such actions would rememberably impact how Bangladesh treats Pakistan in future bilateral series.

While the handshake controversy dominates media headlines, it cannot overshadow Bangladesh’s monumental achievement on the field. Bangladesh completely outclassed Pakistan, securing a dominant 2-0 clean sweep. This series victory marks a sensational chapter in Bangladesh cricket history, extending their active winning streak against Pakistan to four consecutive Test matches—following their previous historic series win on Pakistani soil.
Bangladesh’s tactical execution was flawless throughout the two matches. Their bowling unit consistently exploited Pakistan’s technical vulnerabilities, while the batters displayed immense discipline to post match-winning totals. By neutralizing key threats like Babar and keeping constant pressure on Rizwan, Bangladesh never allowed the home side to find rhythm.
This successive clean sweep underlines a massive shift in the traditional power dynamics of Asian Test cricket. For Bangladesh, the 2-0 triumph solidifies their growing reputation as a formidable red-ball unit, capable of winning both at home and away under immense pressure. For Pakistan, the definitive defeat triggers a period of intense introspection regarding their team selection and tactical approach in the longest format of the game.
