Bangladesh Cricket Board positive on India's white-ball tour to go ahead

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are confident that the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) will approve India's white-ball tour later this year.

The tour was originally set to take place in August of last year, but was postponed due to political tensions between the two countries. This had an impact on the Indian Premier League after the BCCI forced the Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman amid growing stress between India and Bangladesh.

The BCB, however, have promised enhanced security should India travel to the country for their white-ball tour. According to reports, the new president of the cricket board, Tamim Iqbal, has good relations with BCCI's Mithun Manhas, which could see India's tour become a reality.

“We are hopeful about the tour. We haven’t got the green signal as yet from the BCCI, but they also have not said they are not coming. So, we are hoping to get a positive response from the BCCI soon,” A Bangladesh Cricket Board source told TOI, via InsieSport.

According to the aforementioned source, the BCB had invited bids for television and media rights for a six-match series, amid India's imminent tour. Those rumours have since turned out to be incorrect. However, the Men in Blue would likely tour Bangladesh for six matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many T20Is.

India's tour to Bangladesh could have a knock-on effect on other future series. Afghanistan were expected to travel to India for a T20 series in September. However, if the Bangladesh tour does go ahead, the BCCI will need to push the Afghan series back.

As things stand, the Men in Blue are in England for a white-ball tour. They suffered a 4-0 defeat in the T20I series and are currently competing in the 50-over series. From the UK, they will travel to Zimbabwe to play three 20-over matches before touring Sri Lanka for two Test matches, commencing on August 15.
