Shadman Islam has been ruled out of the upcoming second and final Test during the ongoing series between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Ahead of the game in Sylhet, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed that a chest injury to the cricketer while taking a catch in the first Test has unfortunately made him unavailable for the upcoming contest.
The national team physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, gave an official word on Shadman's injury, adding that the cricketer has undergone a traumatic contusion, which has now caused pain in his chest. Zakir Hasan has been added to the squad by the team officials to replace the injured Shadman for the encounter that is set to commence on Saturday, May 16.
"Shadman took a blow in the chest while taking a catch during the first Test in Mirpur. He has a traumatic contusion of the chest and is in pain. He will not be available for the second Test unfortunately," Khan said in a statement, as per Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, Mahmudul Hasan Joy is also doubtful to take part in the upcoming game owing to another injury concern, which comes as a huge blow to the Bangla Tigers. While Tanzid Hasan is expected to be the primary option over Zakir, the latter might be seen featuring in the contest as a last-minute change to the planned XI ahead of the contest.
"Naturally Tanzid Tamim will be ahead of Zakir to make his place in the playing XI for the second Test but our other opener is also having some (fitness) concern so we picked Zakir as his back-up," a selection committee official was quoted as saying.
