Bangladesh Women take on Sri Lanka Women in the second T20I of their three-match series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, April 30. The hosts will want to make a comeback after losing the opening game by 25 runs at the same venue.
In the first T20I, Sri Lanka posted 161 from their quota of 20 overs following half-centuries from Imesha Dulani and Harshitha Samarawickrama. The latter was named Player of the Match after scoring 61 from just 35 balls.
In reply, Bangladesh could only manage 136 before running out of overs. The trio of Malki Madara, Mithali Ayodhya and captain Chamari Athapaththu took two wickets each to keep the scoring in check and secure the victory.
The pitch at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is a balanced wicket, where both batters and bowlers get assistance at different times in the day. The pitch can be good to bat on during the early stages of the match, but the spinners can soon expect to come into the game towards the latter stages, once the pitch dries down a bit more. Scoring, therefore, can be a tad bit difficult in the second innings, as evident from the first T20I game between the two teams.
Sharmin Akhter, Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana(C), Dilara Akter(WK), Juairiya Ferdous, Shorna Akter, Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Sultana Khatun, Fariha Trisna
Chamari Athapaththu(C), Hasini Perera, Imesha Dulani, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Hansima Karunaratne, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshika Silva, Kaushani Nuthyangana(WK), Malki Madara, Sugandika Kumari, Mithali Ayodhya
Imesha Dulani has been in some great form for Sri Lanka over the past few weeks. The right-handed batter has scored three half-centuries in her last four international appearances. Not only did she score 55 off 40 balls in the first T20I, but she also scored two half-centuries against Bangladesh during the ODI series. The 24-year-old is really making a place for herself in Sri Lanka’s middle order.
Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu continues to be her side’s main player in this series, both with bat and ball. She took two wickets in the previous game whilst conceding just 19 runs. Her overall T20I economy rate is also just 6.67, which makes her Sri Lanka’s most crucial bowler in the shortest format.
