English middle-order batter Laurie Evans disclosed a comical episode involving his teammates and himself in an Uber cab they took to the venue ahead of Match 16 of the 2025-26 Big Bash League between Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers on December 30. The Scorchers eventually won the contest by 71 runs.
Evans was mic'd up while speaking to the commentary panel involving Aaron Finch just as the second innings was going to get underway. On being prompted by the other commentator, Evans narrated how he, Aaron Hardie, Mahli Beardman, and Ashton Agar, helped to push the broken-down car from the middle of the road to the side.
Speaking of the match, Perth Scorchers bundled the Thunder out for just 131 in 17.3 overs chasing a steep 203 for victory. Ashton Turner was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 99-run knock which came off just 41 balls and comprised of eight fours and as many sixes. Aaron Hardie and Cooper Connolly were the second-highest scorers for the Scorchers with 28 apiece.
Apart from the Thunders' top three, no other player could cross the 20-run mark. The win against the David Warner-led side was the Scorchers' second victory this season. It came after two back-to-back defeats while not able to defend their total on both occasions.
Shaheen Afridi ruled out of BBL 2025-26 with knee injury
The Scorchers will next take on defending champions Hobart Hurricanes at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on January 1. The Hurricanes recently won against the Scorchers by four wickets and three deliveries to spare on December 26. Tim David, who got injured while batting and subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the BBL season, was the Player of the Match in that clash.
