The riveting action in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 goes on when Sydney Thunder (THU) square off against Melbourne Renegades (REN) in the Match No. 33 at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Monday, January 12.
No season could be as horrendous as Sydney Thunder are having in the ongoing BBL edition. With only one win after eight matches, it is no wonder that the Sydney-based side is teetering at the bottom of the points table. While they remain out of contention for the playoffs, the least they can expect is hurting the little chance the Renegades have.
Speaking of Melbourne Renegades, the side does not have a lot of time left, and every remaining fixture in the league stage is a virtual knockout match for them. They will have to win all of their upcoming three games to have a chance to make it further in the tournament. As a result, they will look to play their best cricket against the Thunder on Monday.
In the three matches at the Sydney Showground Stadium in the ongoing BBL season, two have been won by the teams batting first. The pitch has been offering a lot of assistance to the batters, and the pitch hasn't changed a lot, but the bowlers come into play once the cracks open up. Spinners will come into play in the second half of the match.
David Warner (captain), Matthew Gilkes, Cameron Bancroft, Sam Billings (wicketkeeper), Nic Maddinson, Daniel Sams, David Willey, Chris Green, Tanveer Sangha, Ryan Hadley, Wes Agar
Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tim Seifert, Mohammad Rizwan (w) Josh Brown, Caleb Jewell, Hassan Khan, Will Sutherland (captain), Jason Behrendorff, Brendan Doggett, Gurinder Sandhu, Adam Zampa
Like said earlier, not a lot of things have gone Sydney Thunder's way in the season, but their captain David Warner seems to be playing on a different level. The 39-year-old has smashed 323 runs from seven games thus far, averaging an astonishing 64.60. The experienced opener is expected to enjoy yet another memorable outing with the bat against the Renegades.
Adam Zampa is one of the most prolific names in the Big Bash League. The leg-spinner has 132 wickets in the marquee tournament, and also has the most number of wickets as a spinner in the cash-rich league. His experience, in addition to his variations and composure, is expected to yield a fruitful crop for the Renegades in the upcoming do-or-die contest.
