BCCI announces India U19 squad for England tour: Ayush Mhatre named captain, Vaibhav Suryavanshi to open

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, May 22nd, officially announced the 16-member India Under-19 squad set to embark on a crucial tour of England. The squad features two prominent names from the ongoing IPL 2025, Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, both of whom generated considerable buzz with their performances.
Ayush Mhatre, a promising talent from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has been entrusted with the captaincy for the upcoming England tour. He will be ably supported by Abhigyan Kundu, who has been named the vice-captain and will also take on wicket-keeping duties. The young Indian team is slated to engage in a comprehensive tour, comprising a five-match Youth One-Day series and two multi-day matches against their England Under-19 counterparts.
In an official media release, the BCCI confirmed the selections, stating, “The Junior Cricket Committee has picked India’s U19 for the upcoming tour of England, scheduled from June 24 to July 23, 2025. The tour comprises a 50-over warm-up match, followed by a five-match Youth One-Day series and two multi-day matches against England U19.”
This extensive tour provides a vital platform for India’s emerging cricketing talent to gain invaluable experience in challenging overseas conditions.
The inclusion of Mhatre and Suryavanshi highlights the BCCI’s recognition of their recent impactful displays in the IPL. Mhatre and Suryavanshi’s selection underscores their potential and the selectors’ confidence in their abilities to perform at the youth international level.
