BCCI gives epic reply to Suryakumar Yadav’s social media post with fellow T20 World Cup-winning captains MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Match 44 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), a social media exchange featuring three of India’s World Cup-winning captains grabbed widespread attention.
India’s current T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, shared a picture on 'X' (previously Twitter) alongside Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, captioning it, 'Group DP mil gaya; bas group name suggest karo (I have got the perfect display picture for the group; just suggest some strong group names),' inviting fans to suggest a name for the trio’s group on social media.
The image quickly went viral, given the stature of the players involved. Rohit Sharma led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title; MS Dhoni remains the only Indian captain to win all three ICC white-ball trophies, while Suryakumar Yadav recently joined the elite list by captaining the Men in Blue to the T20 World Cup 2026 triumph.
However, it was the response from the BCCI that truly stood out. Quoting Suryakumar’s post, the board came up with a unique group name suggestion, writing ‘The CUP-TAANS.’
We've got a group name for you @surya_14kumar 😉.....𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗨𝗣-𝗧𝗔𝗔𝗡𝗦 🏆🏆🏆#TeamIndia | @msdhoni | @ImRo45 https://t.co/ziOgGYUDJG
The phrase, a clever play on 'captains', also highlights the multiple ICC trophies won by the trio for India across different editions of the T20 World Cup, making it a fitting title for the star-studded group. The photo was taken before MI’s clash against arch-rivals CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on May 02.
The IPL 2026 has not been going well for the right-handed batter from Mumbai, though. In eight matches so far, Suryakumar has managed to score just 162 runs at a strike rate of 140, which is nowhere near his T20 standards.
The Mumbai-based franchise themselves are a struggling unit in IPL 2026, winning just two of their first eight matches, and this match against the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side becomes a crucial encounter for them if they want to stay well and truly alive in the race to the playoffs.
