The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the 15-man squad for the upcoming two-Test series against West Indies, scheduled to start on October 2 in Ahmedabad and conclude on October 10 in Delhi. The series forms part of India’s second assignment in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle, following their drawn five-Test series against England earlier this year. Shubman Gill will continue to lead the team, with the home conditions expected to favour spin, making team selection a crucial factor.
One of the highlights of the selection is the return of promising batter Devdutt Padikkal. After being out of the national setup for some time, Padikkal’s inclusion provides India with a strong middle-order option. Alongside him, fast-bowling all-rounder Nitish Reddy has also made a comeback, adding depth to India’s bowling resources. Their return signals the selectors’ focus on form, fitness, and balance in both batting and bowling departments.
Ravindra Jadeja continues to play a pivotal role in India’s plans, not only as a key all-rounder but also as the vice-captain for the series. His leadership experience and ability to influence matches with both bat and ball make him an invaluable asset for the team. Jadeja’s appointment reflects the management’s confidence in his tactical acumen and the role he can play in guiding younger players like Padikkal and Nitish during the series.

The rest of India’s squad features a largely familiar lineup, with an emphasis on a spin-heavy attack suited to home conditions. Alongside Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel complete the trio of spin-bowling allrounders, with left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav as a specialist.
The pace department includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna as frontline pacers, supported by Nitish. Experienced batters KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sai Sudharsan anchor the lineup, while wicketkeeping duties are shared by Dhruv Jurel and N. Jagadeesan. Notably, Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran, part of the England tour, have been left out, highlighting the selectors’ focus on current form and suitability to home conditions.
India squad for West Indies Tests: Shubman Gill (c), Ravindra Jadeja (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (wk), N. Jagadeesan (wk), Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
