Adelaide Strikers have pulled off a major signing ahead of the 16th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), bringing England star Ben Stokes on board for the upcoming campaign. The experienced all-rounder will be available throughout BBL 16, giving the former champions a significant boost as they look to mount another title challenge.
The Adelaide-based franchise has secured the services of one of cricket’s most accomplished modern all-rounders, with Stokes set to make his mark in the BBL after a remarkable international career. At 35, Stokes remains one of the game’s biggest match-winners. His ability to change the course of a contest with either bat or ball makes him a particularly valuable addition to a Strikers squad preparing for a demanding summer schedule.
The England star has built a reputation for producing his best cricket when the pressure is at its highest. His contribution in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup final remains one of the defining moments of his career. Chasing New Zealand’s total at Lord’s, Stokes remained unbeaten on 84 as England’s tense pursuit ended in a dramatic tie. He then played a key role in the Super Over before England claimed their first ODI World Cup crown. Only a few weeks later, Stokes produced another unforgettable innings against Australia in the Ashes.
The Headingley Test in 2019 saw Stokes smash an unbeaten 135, dragging England from the brink of defeat to an extraordinary one-wicket victory. The innings became an instant Ashes classic and further cemented his reputation as a player capable of thriving in seemingly impossible situations.
Over a career spanning more than 15 years, Stokes has accumulated more than 11,000 international runs. His highest scores include 258 in Test cricket and 182 in ODIs, while he has also registered 19 centuries for England across international formats.
His record in T20 cricket is equally impressive. Stokes has two centuries in the Indian Premier League, scoring an unbeaten 107 from 60 balls for Rajasthan Royals in 2020 and 103 off 63 deliveries for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017. As a bowler, he has added 352 international wickets to his impressive résumé, with his best figures standing at 6/22.

Stokes’ availability for the entire BBL 16 campaign could prove particularly important for Adelaide. Having a player with his experience and versatility throughout the tournament gives the Strikers another genuine match-winning option in both departments.
The franchise will hope Stokes can help them rediscover the consistency required to challenge for the BBL crown. His arrival also adds considerable star power to a competition that continues to attract some of the world’s leading cricketers.
The Strikers will begin their BBL 16 campaign against Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval on December 16, 2026. With Stokes now part of their plans, expectations around Adelaide’s season are likely to rise considerably.
