The high-octane Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season is set to begin on Sunday, December 14, with a total of 44 matches scheduled across the tournament. The final will be played on January 26. Eight teams will compete for the coveted title, with the Perth Scorchers standing out as the most successful franchise, having lifted the trophy five times over the years.
The Melbourne Stars remain the only team yet to win the tournament in BBL history. The season will once again get underway at Optus Stadium, where the Perth Scorchers will host the Sydney Sixers in the latest chapter of their fierce rivalry. The blockbuster clash between the competition’s two most successful sides will commence at 4:15 PM local time (1:45 PM IST).
Several marquee overseas players will be in action during the opening days of the tournament. Pakistan superstar Babar Azam is set to feature for the Sydney Sixers in the season opener, while his compatriots Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi will go head-to-head when the Melbourne Renegades host the Brisbane Heat in Geelong. Hobart Hurricanes will start their title defence at home when they host Sydney Thunder on Tuesday night at Ninja Stadium.
