Brydon Carse added to England squad amid ODI series vs India
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) selectors have added Brydon Carse to England's squad for the ongoing three-match ODI series against India. The official announcement came amid the series opener, which is currently being played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 14.
Carse makes his comeback after recovering from the wrist and elbow injuries he sustained ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He was ruled out of the tournament, as the Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced him with Dilshan Madushanka.
The 30-year-old has not played white-ball cricket this year for England. His last ODI appearance came back in November 2025 against New Zealand at the Sky Stadium in Wellington. Carse has featured in 30 ODIs for England, picking up 34 wickets at an average of 40.44 and an economy rate of 6.34. He recently completed five years playing ODI cricket for England. However, his injury struggles have barred him from playing consistently for the Three Lions. Carse will also add value to the team with his batting abilities in the lower-order if England decide to play him.
Carse recently returned to competitive cricket as he played three matches in the T20 Blast for Durham. The right-arm seamer's addition gives England a lot of variety with their seam-bowling attack.
Saqib Mahmood, Jofra Archer, and Josh Tongue are already present in the squad as specialist seamers. Sam Curran and Gus Atkinson are the seam-bowling all-rounders in the team. Meanwhile, Rehan Ahmed, James Coles, and Adil Rashid are spinners to look out for.
England squad: Harry Brook (C), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, James Coles, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Josh Tongue.
The first and third ODIs commence at 11am local time (3:30pm IST), while the second match begins at 1pm local time (5:30pm IST), with matches across Birmingham, Cardiff and London respectively. India will look to reverse their recent T20I disappointment against England, with captain Shubman Gill able to welcome back key figures like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul for the ODI leg.
