Cricket South Africa announces complete schedule of SA20 2027

Cricket South Africa (CSA) have officially released the full schedule for the fifth edition of South Africa’s premier franchise T20 tournament SA20, with the competition set to run from January 17 to February 21, 2027. Season 5 promises another month of high-quality cricket featuring six franchises, exciting double-headers, and a revamped playoff schedule that includes Boland Park hosting its first-ever SA20 playoff match. The tournament opener will see defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape take on Pretoria Capitals in a rematch of the 2026 final, while the title decider will once again be played at Newlands in Cape Town.

The fifth edition will begin on January 17 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, where reigning champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape will renew their rivalry with Pretoria Capitals after defeating them in last season’s final. The league stage will continue until February 14 before the playoffs commence two days later.

Fans will also be treated to four Saturday double-headers during the league phase on January 23, January 30, February 6 and February 13. These matchdays are expected to provide a festival-like atmosphere across South Africa, with two matches scheduled on each of those Saturdays. The tournament has been scheduled to begin just two days after South Africa conclude their home ODI series against England, allowing many international stars to transition directly into franchise cricket.

One of the biggest highlights of the newly announced schedule is Boland Park in Paarl hosting its first-ever SA20 playoff match. The venue, home of the Paarl Royals, has been awarded Qualifier 1, which will be played on February 16. Johannesburg’s Wanderers will host both the Eliminator on February 17 and Qualifier 2 on February 19, making it the centre of the knockout stage before attention shifts to Cape Town.

For the second consecutive season, Newlands will stage the SA20 final, with the championship match scheduled for February 21. It will also be the third time Newlands has hosted the tournament final since the league’s inception.

All six teams return for Season 5 as they chase the SA20 trophy. Sunrisers Eastern Cape remain the tournament’s most successful franchise after winning three titles, while MI Cape Town lifted the championship in 2025. Pretoria Capitals will be aiming to go one step further after finishing runners-up twice, whereas Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals are still searching for their maiden appearance in an SA20 final.

The participating teams are: Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Pretoria Capitals, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants.

The playoff format remains unchanged, with the top four teams progressing to the knockout stage.
