Cricket South Africa has announced the squad and dates for the South Africa A tour against the England Lions, set to commence later this month.
The tour comprises three 50-over games and two four-day matches. The first four-day match begins on May 22 at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground, while the second game will be played on May 29. The one-day series will start on June 5 at Grace Road in Leicester. The final two games will be played on June 7 and June 9 at New Road, Worcester. The team will leave for England on May 16.
Uncapped batter Marques Ackerman captains both teams, with the One-Day squad seeing the addition of Gerald Coetzee, Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who will return from their duties in the IPL. Ottneil Baartman and Tony de Zorzi are national team regulars who will feature in both squads. Seamer Dane Paterson also makes his return to the national setup, after playing his last international game in 2024.
“We’ve continued to back a core group of players who have shown consistency within the SA ‘A’ setup and for their domestic teams,” SA ‘A’ head coach Wandile Gwavu said, as quoted in an official Statement
“This tour is a great chance for that group to test themselves in English conditions, and we know that someone like Dane brings a wealth of experience in those conditions. I’m looking forward to seeing him alongside Ottneil as we build towards a busy home summer and the opportunities it presents at Proteas level,” he added.
