The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) endured one of their toughest seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, finishing at the bottom of the points table. With only four wins throughout the tournament, their campaign was marred by inconsistent batting performances, particularly from the middle order. Key batters struggled to maintain healthy strike-rates or find rhythm, resulting in repeated collapses and pressure on the top order.

Ahead of IPL 2025, CSK had assembled what appeared to be a balanced squad at the mega auction. In a major move, they also secured Sanju Samson via trade from Rajasthan Royals, significantly strengthening their top-order options.

On the other hand, CSK parted ways with Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Shaik Rasheed, Andre Siddarth, and Vansh Bedi. The most notable decisions were trading out Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, two premier all-rounders who were integral to the team’s balance. Their departure leaves CSK with the task of recruiting impactful all-rounders to restore depth and maintain flexibility in both batting and bowling.
