CSK clear the air around Brevis signing after R Ashwin's 'extra money' remark

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have clarified the situation around Dewald Brevis' signing as a replacement player after R Ashwin came up with some serious allegations in relation to the same. Ashwin recently made certain remarks on the manner in which Brevis was acquired, claiming that the franchise had paid extra money to Brevis' agent over his base price.
"Dewald Brevis had a great time in the IPL last year after CSK got him in in the back half of the season," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. "I even heard that two-three teams were also talking to him but they had to let him go after not being able to pay extra money. He had a base price in the auction but discussions and negotiations would have happened with his agent, that 'I'll join the team only for a certain sum of money'.
"His concept would have been that 'If I play this season, my value (for the next auction) will go higher'. So he might have told CSK, 'I'll need the extra money'. And the team was willing to pay him extra, which is why he came in," added Ashwin.
As per CSK's official release, Brevis was signed as an injury player to replace Gurjapneet Singh in full accordance with the IPL Player Regulations (2025-27) and in specific Clause 6.6 which states the following:
“A replacement player signed pursuant to either paragraph 6.1 or 6.2 can be recruited at a league fee which shall not be more than the league fee that would have been payable to the injured/unavailable player for the relevant season. If a replacement player is recruited during a season, the league fee actually paid to him will be reduced to take account of the franchise’s matches during the relevant season which took place before he was registered and any other relevant deductions under the player contract," stated the release uploaded by CSK.
CSK also uploaded a screenshot of a media advisory posted by the IPL on its official website confirming Brevis coming into the setup for INR 2.2 crore. This was the same price at which Gurjapneet was secured at the mega auction in Jeddah.
CSK's post clears the air regarding accusations made by Ashwin in relation to Brevis' mid-season signing. Speaking of Ashwin, the seasoned all-rounder did not have a season to remember as he managed only seven wickets in nine matches. He was quite expensive too, conceding runs at a rate of 9.12. Meanwhile, as per reports, CSK and Ashwin have certain disagreements over the spinner's future role in the team and it is likely that the franchise will release him ahead of the auction.
