CSK files complaint to BCCI against RCB’s DJ for ‘Dosa, Idli’ song during their IPL 2026 match

The fierce rivalry between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has taken a controversial turn off the field. Following their IPL 2026 clash on April 5 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Chennai franchise has formally lodged a complaint with the BCCI, alleging that the stadium DJ crossed professional boundaries by using music and commentary to mock and “undermine” their players.

At the heart of the dispute is the playing of the viral track ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney, Chutney’ by musician Gana Appu. While the song is a popular social media meme, it has frequently been weaponized in online fan wars to push South Indian stereotypes. CSK officials expressed that playing the track just before their innings began was not in good taste and was a deliberate attempt to ridicule the team.

The complaint extends beyond the music. CSK Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that the franchise took offense to specific remarks made by the stadium DJ over the public address system. According to the team management, the DJ allegedly made insulting comments following the dismissal of CSK batters. CSK argued that while a DJ’s role is to energize the home crowd, it should not involve undermining or insulting the opposition.

“The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it,” Viswanathan told the Indian Express.

This isn’t the first time this particular track has caused friction. Last season, RCB posted a video of player Jitesh Sharma singing the same song, which led to significant backlash from the CSK fanbase. In a retaliatory move during a match at Chepauk, the CSK DJ played the song when Jitesh was dismissed. However, Viswanathan noted that CSK management immediately intervened at the time, ordering their DJ to stop to ensure opposition players were not targeted—a standard they claim RCB failed to uphold in the recent Bengaluru fixture.

A senior IPL official has confirmed that the BCCI Governing Council has received the formal complaint and is currently reviewing the stadium’s conduct guidelines to see if a breach occurred.

“We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it,” the official said.

In the current IPL 2026 season, RCB have emerged as the league’s powerhouse, maintaining an exceptional winning streak that includes a dominant 43-run victory over their Southern rivals. Their clinical performance, particularly at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, has solidified their position at the top of the table.

Conversely, CSK have struggled to find consistent rhythm; while they remain a formidable threat with a deep roster, their loss to RCB highlights ongoing challenges in their bowling unit during the death overs and a batting lineup that has faltered under high-pressure chases.
