Chennai Super Kings chief executive officer Kasi Viswanathan has provided an official update regarding the calf strain of former captain MS Dhoni ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals. CSK will crossing swords with DC on Saturday, April 11, in a home encounter at the iconic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Ahead of the all-important clash, there is sad news for fans: they will have to wait a little longer to see their favourite legend take the field, as Dhoni has been ruled out of the upcoming fixture because he has not yet recovered from his injury. Viswanathan has said that providing an exact timeline for his return is currently not possible, but the dressing room is positive about having him fully fit soon.
"MS is undergoing rehab, and it will take some time. We can't say how much time," Viswanathan told Cricbuzz on Tuesday, April 07.
It is worth mentioning that the Ranchi-born is currently in Chennai with his family alongside. He is recuperating from the calf strain under the careful observation of a special support staff. Notably, the 44-year-old is also being accompanied by a physiotherapist and a masseur to help him get back on track as fast as possible.
The CEO also provided the much-needed update on the availability of Dewald Brevis, who has been out of all the matches CSK have played so far, where they have failed to win a single contest, with their campaign already in shambles. According to Viswanathan, the South African international is expected to be playing against the Capitals.
"We are hoping he will be available for the next game, but that will depend on how he progresses. We have a few days before the next game," the CEO elaborated.
If Brevis is in, it is likely that CSK will replace him with Jamie Overton in the playing XI to meet the overseas player criteria of four. However, Noor Ahmad has also had off days in the season, so the management may want to keep Overton by resting the Afghanistan spinner instead. Speculations around Akeal Hosein replacing Noor also circulated, indicating that there may be two changes once Brevis arrives.
