Dehradun T20 League 2026 confirms captains for Six franchises ahead of September 2 start
The Dehradun T20 League 2026 confirmed the captains of all six participating franchises on August 29, with the competition scheduled to get underway on September 2 at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The announcement covers every team in the field and sets the leadership structure for the full eight-day tournament.
Akash Madhwal, who represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL, will lead Mussoorie Thunder. Jagadeesha Suchith has been appointed captain of Herbertpur Knightriders, bringing further IPL and domestic experience to the competition. The remaining four captains are TNR Mohit for Doiwala Kings, Yuvraj Chaudhary for Rishikesh Dragons, Kunal Chandela for Vikasnagar Dhamaka and Piyush Joshi for Selakui Strikers.
"Having experienced and capable players lead the six teams is a major advantage for the Dehradun T20 League. Captains such as Akash Madhwal and Jagadeesha Suchith bring valuable experience from IPL and domestic cricket, while TNR Mohit, Yuvraj Chaudhary, Kunal Chandela and Piyush Joshi understand the local cricketing environment and the potential of players from the region. Their leadership will be crucial not only in the competition but also in helping young players learn, adapt and perform at this level," Mishra was quoted as saying by The News Mill.
The Dehradun T20 League 2026 runs from September 2 to September 9, covering eight days of cricket at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy. The competition features 18 matches in total across its duration. The league stage comprises 15 matches, after which the two semi-finals are scheduled for September 8. The final takes place on September 9 to conclude the inaugural edition.
All matches across the league stage, knockout rounds and the final are hosted at the same venue in Dehradun, keeping the entire tournament at a single centralised location in Uttarakhand.
Each of the six franchises has a confirmed captain heading into the September 2 start. Madhwal leads Mussoorie Thunder, Suchith captains Herbertpur Knightriders, Mohit heads Doiwala Kings, Chaudhary takes charge of Rishikesh Dragons, Chandela leads Vikasnagar Dhamaka and Joshi captains Selakui Strikers.
Madhwal and Suchith are the two captains with verified IPL backgrounds, while the other four bring familiarity with the regional cricketing landscape in Uttarakhand. The combination of national-level exposure and local knowledge across the six sides is expected to shape the competitive character of the inaugural edition.
