The 39th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday, will be remembered for all the wrong reasons by the home faithful. In a season that has redefined T20 power-hitting, the Delhi Capitals (DC) plummeted to a staggering new low against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). On a surface where they had posted 264 runs just days prior, DC was bundled out for a measly 75 runs in just 16.3 overs. The collapse was historic and harrowing: at one point, the scoreboard read a surreal 8/6 within the first four overs, as the new-ball duo of Josh Hazlewood (4/12) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/5) orchestrated a masterclass in swing bowling.
In the wake of the nine-wicket drubbing, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal took to social media to address the shell-shocked fanbase and a dressing room that seemed to have hit its lowest point. Jindal, known for his passionate involvement with the franchise, struck a tone of sombre defiance.
Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Jindal urged the squad to prevent the season from spiralling further. “Stay together more than ever now @DelhiCapitals – really very tough to take, but we must keep fighting and keep believing,” he posted. His message comes at a time when the team’s playoff aspirations are hanging by a thread. The defeat was particularly stinging because it highlighted a complete lack of tactical adaptability. While RCB’s bowlers hit “Test-match lengths” to extract movement, the DC top order, including the likes of KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, seemed to have no answer, falling to a flurry of poor shot selections and tentative pokes.

If the owners were looking for resilience, captain Axar Patel was left searching for logic. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Axar looked visibly shaken by the speed of the capitulation. “I still don’t understand what happened, In cricket, they say you have to stay on your toes, but tonight was a total blackout,” Axar admitted to the broadcasters.
Axar reflected on the team’s mental state, suggesting that the pressure of failing to defend a massive total in their previous game might have led to a hesitation in the batting unit. The skipper noted that losing six wickets in the space of roughly 15 balls was bad luck but also a result of failing to respect world-class bowling from Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar.
“We can nitpick, but you can’t take things easy in the IPL. We need to forget this, move on, and stay positive,” he added, though his tone suggested that the recovery would be anything but simple.
With this defeat, Delhi Capitals have slipped to seventh place on the points table, securing only three wins from eight matches. With a plummeting Net Run Rate of -1.060, the road to the top four now requires a near-perfect run in their remaining fixtures—a tall order for a side currently searching for its missing identity.
