There were a lot of expectations regarding Rohit Sharma continuing as India's ODI captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India recently appointed Shubman Gill as the full-time ODI skipper.
Rohit changed the landscape of Indian 50-over cricket witha his captaincy and overall approach with the bat. When he secured the full-time role in December 2021, Rohit had vowed to enhance the dressing room culture as well as the team's mindset, not focusing on individual milestones and always keeping the team first.
His ODI record as captain and player was splendid. Rohit won 75% (winning 42 out of 56 matches) of the ODIs he led in. He excelled with the bat as well and took the added responsibility of upping the run rate of the team. He registered 2506 runs in 55 innings at an average of 52.20 and strike rate of 111.97, respectively.
India recently won the 2025 Champions Trophy under Rohit. This came a few months after the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup 2024 under Rohit's leadership. Social media reacted to the change in captaincy, highlighting Rohit's contributions as well his stats. Rohit deservedly earned widespread praise for past exploits.
