The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik will captain Team India in the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes 2025 tournament, scheduled from November 7 to 9 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, Mong Kok, Hong Kong.
This year’s edition promises thrilling action in one of cricket’s most entertaining short formats, as teams from around the world – including Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Pakistan – compete in the three-day extravaganza.
Dinesh Karthik, who retired from the IPL last season but remains active in global franchise T20 leagues, expressed his honour and excitement at leading the national side in a tournament that blends fun, flair, and fierce competition.
“It’s an absolute honour to lead India in the Hong Kong Sixes. This format brings out the best of cricket’s entertainment and skill. We’ve got a balanced squad that can adapt quickly to high-intensity conditions,” Karthik said in an official statement.
His leadership and finishing ability will be key in guiding a team that features a blend of experienced campaigners and domestic stalwarts, ready to take on some of the biggest names in international sixes cricket.
In the group stage, India finds itself in Group C, set to face arch-rivals Pakistan and Kuwait in what promises to be an electrifying set of encounters.
Each match will consist of six overs per side, with six players per team on the field. Every bowler delivers one over, except the wicketkeeper and one other bowler, who can bowl two overs each. The top two teams from every group will qualify for the quarterfinals, followed by single-match knockouts to determine the champion.
Teams failing to progress to the main knockout draw will compete in bowl and plate fixtures, ensuring every side gets valuable match exposure.
The Indian squad announced for the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 boasts a perfect blend of experience, skill and versatility.
Alongside Karthik, the team features former India internationals Robin Uthappa and Stuart Binny, both known for their explosive batting and adaptability in shorter formats. Abhimanyu Mithun and Shahbaz Nadeem bring bowling depth and control, while Priyank Panchal and Bharat Chipli strengthen the batting lineup with consistency and power-hitting.
