ENG vs IND 2025: India should have chased down 193 at Lord's - Sourav Ganguly

India fell agonisingly short of winning the third Test against England at the Lord's Cricket Ground as they failed to chase down a 193-run target. Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the lone warrior, scoring an unbeaten 61 off 181 balls as India were dismissed for 170 in the final session on Day 5.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly cut a disappointed figure as he felt that the Shubman Gill-led side should have chased down the target, highlighting the fight showcased by Jadeja and the quality of the rest of the batters in the lineup.
“A little bit disappointed with the way India batted in this series, they should have got this 190,” Ganguly said at the Indian Racing League & F4 India Championship on Tuesday, July 15.
“When you saw Jadeja fight and score the runs, batting quality in this team, and they will be more disappointed than I am because it was an opportunity to get 2-1 up in the series against England," he added.
Jadeja's contemporaries, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, retired from Test cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. However, the Saurashtra all-rounder remains a regular feature in the longest format for the Asian giants. Ganguly reflected on Jadeja's experience and described him as an important part of the Indian red-ball setup.
BCCI Vice-President on Rohit, Virat Test retirements
“Jadeja has been exceptional, he is going to continue to play for India as long as he bats and performs like this. He has been around for a long time. He has played some 80 Test matches and more than 200 one-day games. You can see him batting, bowling, and fielding. He is a special player, and his batting has really improved over the years with the experience. He is a special player and very important part of this team,” Ganguly said.
