Woakes suffered a dislocated left shoulder while fielding on Day 1 of the fifth Test against India. He landed awkwardly while diving to save a boundary, an act of commitment that saved a run but left him in severe pain. The injury ruled him out of bowling for the remainder of the match, leaving England with one less specialist bowler. His absence significantly impacted England’s balance, forcing the other bowlers to shoulder a heavier workload. Woakes’ willingness to bat with the injury on the final day, with his arm in a sling, became a defining moment of bravery in the series.
